FCS participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for MedImmune Specialty Care. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

It’s flu season – there’s no two ways about it – it arrives every year.  Its hit us here in NH already.  Flu shots are being given, and regardless of how I feel about some vaccines, this is one vaccine our family won’t go without. Continue reading »

Ollie Ollie abscess healed with black salve

Black Salve to the Rescue of Another Cat Abscess

Yes!  I’ve healed another one of my cats who had an abscess on his cheek with Black Salve AKA Ichthammol ointment.  This ointment is one of my best friends!  I cannot tell you how much money I have saved on Vet bills using this ointment.

Meet Ollie Ollie

Ollie

Ollie Ollie had a HUGE right cheek.  When I say the cheek was huge – I mean it was huge and the swelling appeared overnight.  I knew right away what the cause of the swelling was.  Ollie Ollie had an abscess.

You see, Ollie Ollie had started a fight outside with Mr. Snickers a few days prior.  I half expected that Mr. Snickers was going to show signs of the fight as he got the bad end of the deal (he lost a lot of fur in that fight).  I thought he would have scratches all over his face and neck yet; it turned out that Ollie Ollie was the victim of ill (that’s karma…Ollie Ollie should have not had a case of the butt).

CHaD Hospital Roar YouTube Video Goes Viral Featuring Katy Perry’s ROAR

A bit about CHaD

We have a fabulous Children’s Hospital here in NH – Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD).  This is New Hampshire’s Children’s ‘go to’ hospital when they need a top-notch specialist.  Many individuals are sent to Dartmouth – the main hospital – when they need specialized treatment simply because they have a lot of the latest technology.

The Video

As many of you know – Katy Perry has struck the hearts of many with her song, “Roar.”  And for those who don’t know the song, it’s a song about over-coming abuse.  This video is: “The video was the brain child of producer Chris Cammuck.”

I had it on my iPod,” she said. “I would play it in front of a group of people, and I would do the motions. Everybody followed. It was amazing. I was floored.” (Source WMUR)

The YouTube video went viral overnight on Facebook!

The video is extremely heart-warming, inspirational, and makes you really think about how a song can really uplift an individual and make a difference in their life.

What’s even more special about this video for my family is that the young lady you see in the tie-dyed t-shirt – she is my daughter’s best friend.  She’s a delightful young lady who had been a patient at CHAD for nearly two weeks prior to being released shortly before the video aired on YouTube.

The young lady – her name is Meghan and she has a lot of talent.  She has a beautiful voice (she can sing), can tap dance, knows sign language and strives to learn as much as she can.  Sadly, though, each day brings her not knowing what life is going to throw her way.  You see, she  suffers from Cystic Fibrosis (thus the color of her tie dyed tee) and diabetes.  She’s a fighter though!  And, she certainly “ROARS” with each breath she takes.

All of these children in the video “ROAR” as they continue to fight for their lives no matter how small the illness, or how big the illness, may be.

So, the next time you’re feeling really down because of what life has thrown your way – refer back to this CHaD Hospital Roar YouTube Video to remind yourself that you can “ROAR” too.

The below content is sponsored by Sanofi Pasteur’s Headfirst! Expert Advice on Lice campaign on behalf  of Mom Central Consulting .  I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

Unfortunately, head lice are common in elementary schools – about one out of every 100 elementary school children becomes infested.

Most parents would agree, the letter home informing of a head lice outbreak is not a welcome sight.  The question of “What do I do?” is common. Knowing the facts beforehand can help you resolve the  situation quickly.

The Headfirst! Expert Advice on Lice website aims to help you do just that. Created by head lice experts  (and moms) for other moms, families and communities to learn about head lice—what they are, what  they look like and how to treat them.

The site offers a variety of tools including:

  • The How to Lose the Lice Guide, with a handy checklist to save time and reduce stress when battling head lice
  • The Headfirst! Lice Experience video allows you to choose your experience, whether it be you’re not sure you have lice, or you just want to get rid of them

So if you are trying to get rid of head lice, or a parent who always likes to be prepared, visit Headfirst! Expert Advice on Lice for more information

It’s National Mushroom Month – do you know what the benefits of eating mushrooms are for your body?

mushrooms

These ready to eat little buggers (well, you should wash them) are loaded with beneficial nutrients the body needs. Mushrooms are a low calorie, fat-free, cholesterol-free, gluten-free food option which are very low in sodium. Now, you wouldn’t think they’d give you the nutritional punch that they do but they provide the body with these important nutrients/minerals and more:

  • riboflavin
  • B vitamins
  • niacin
  • potassium
  • vitamin D
  • selenium

It’s even been said that they can help prevent certain types of cancers.  There’s a lot to learn about mushrooms and the punch they give our bodies.

Keep your kids safe! Take a look at this Genetic Fingerprint – You can have one of these done of your child(ren) too!

A parent’s worst fear is learning that their child is missing – no matter their age.  I cringe at just the thought of someone taking my daughter – any child – anyone, and harming them in any way, shape or form.  For me – it’s the unthinkable…but I also know that it’s a reality that could happen.  I also know I have a job to do by educating her about predators of all kinds, by repeating myself over and over again about the crazies in this world – to drive it into her mind that no child or adult is exempt from being kidnapped.  And – I know I have to do what I can to be able to help the police find my child if that ever happened.  I need to know things like, what clothes she had on, where birthmarks are located, what they look like, what unique characteristics she has, and now I am adding to my list – a genetic fingerprint.

You Ask – What is a Genetic Fingerprint?
