Period of Purple Crying

 The Period of Purple Crying

All babies cry – it’s their way of communicating.  Their crying could mean they are hungry, need a diaper change, are cold and need to be swaddled, have gas (colic) and are uncomfortable, or they could be sick.  But there is also a time in an infant’s life where you’ll see a period of increased crying during the first few months.  This is said to be normal.  Usually, the increased crying begins around two weeks of age, will escalate during the second month of life, and begins to taper off during the third and forth month.  ALL infants cry more during this period of time and some infants cry more than others.

The letters in the word PURPLE, which PURPLE is an acronym used to help those caring for infants to recognize the characteristics of normal infant crying:

A mid-life crisis is a natural part of human existence and human nature. They can occur for many reasons and often occur from ages 40-60. Ultimately, scientists are still unsure why exactly people ‘break down’ in this period of their lives, but ultimately it comes down to two fairly simple realizations, the first is that they don’t have much time left to find the meaning that they have always thought they would find in their lives and at the same time realize that they have not done as many meaningful things in their lives to date and have possibly wasted their time. These fundamental realizations can be triggered by many different events which I am going to outline below. I will say first however, a Midlife crisis is inevitable, everyone will have one, some are more extreme than others but we humans are yet to find the true meaning of existence on the planet for ourselves and are constantly worried by that fact. My point is that life is a journey to further understanding and we each need to experience things to make our lives meaningful and midlife crisis’ are just one of those experiences. An article here on the meaning of life has definitely helped me to understand the world.

benefits of omega 3 krill oil

When I was asked if I’d like to review Everest Nutrition Krill Oil – I was more than happy to do so. I had heard there were benefits of omega 3 krill oil but didn’t realize there was such a difference between fish oil vs. krill oil until performing this review.  You see, I have been wanting to try Krill Oil for some time now to see if I would experience any side effects before I combined it with a few other nutritional supplements in which I was going to give to my daughter in hopes to ease her ADD and anxiety issues. benefits of omega 3 krill oil Continue reading »

A personal experience which happened during our family’s Easter dinner (2013) leaves me feeling compelled to ask you if you were faced with the situation where someone was choking, could you step up to the plate and perform the Heimlich Maneuver?  I didn’t think that I would be needing to put my knowledge to the test – but then, when does one?

Here’s what happened:

Have you heard of Teeple’s Testosterone?  Dr. Teeple and his wife are on a mission to share their story on how Dr. Teeple’s low testosterone affected their relationship and his health.  Not knowing much on the subject until it was time to learn about it in medical school, Dr. Teeple discovered that maybe a simple blood test could shed some light on symptoms he’d been having – and that it did!

Have a cold and full of mucus?  Or maybe you have the flu and are experiencing a lot of mucus?  Try Guiafenesin.  Guiafenesin is an expectorant that works by helping to clear mucus in the chest by thinning it out.  It also works for nasal congestion.  Guiafenesin is the main active ingredient in Mucinex and is an active ingredient in many cold medicines.  It can be purchased over the counter as well as being prescribed by a doctor.

If you like Mucinex – you’ll find that Guiafenesin will be just as good as Mucinex for mucus relief – for a lot less money.  Usually the label displays the words ‘Mucus Relief.’  If you read the label/ingredients – you’ll see that the active ingredient is Guiafenesin.  Check this page out on Amazon: Mucinex – Guiafenesin.  There you will see Guiafenesin products mixed in with Mucinex products.  You’ll also notice that Guiafenesin is a lot less cheaper…saving you money.

Bed bugs can be found anywhere!  In my opinion – they are right up there on the nasty list with scabies and lice!  I would say, actually worse than because it’s much harder to get rid of the infestation, without bringing in an exterminator.  You don’t need to be a ‘dirty’ person or have a ‘dirty’ home to be infested with these nasty creatures.  You can carry these bugs home with you wherever you may be at that is infested with them – a hotel, a friend’s home, a relative’s home – literally anywhere.  They have the ability to live up to a year without food, so they really don’t mind hanging around to hitch a ride to go home with you, to find themselves a new domain.

High Blood Pressure and Over the Counter Cold Meds Don’t Mix.  The decongestants found in cold and multi-symptom over the counter meds may cause your blood pressure and heart rate to rise. Their job is to relieve the nasal stuffiness by reducing swelling in the nasal cavity; however, they adversely effect persons with high blood pressure.  A decongestant can be listed as any one of the following:

  • ephedrine
  • phenylephrine
  • pseudoephedrine
  • oxymetazoline
  • naphazoline

You don’t have to suffer and sweat out the cold though just because you have high blood pressure.  Coricidin HBP is a great option for those with high blood pressure.  Coricidin HBP contains no decongestants and it’s recommended by the American Heart Association.  Since one never knows how they will react to medications until they’ve taken them, it’s always a smart choice to stay clear of medications that can potentially harm an already existing health problem.

I was recently sent a box of Coricidin HBP Cold & Flu tablets.  Myself, I haven’t had the need to use the product, but my other half has.  He came down with a bad case of the flu.  He wanted some relief, so I gave him a couple of tablets.  Off to bed he went and I didn’t hear him complaining for quite some time (thank goodness!).  Given that – I would say the product worked 🙂  My daughter also had the pleasures of a cold just before the Christmas holiday (before other half had the flu).  All we had in the house aside from a night-time cold med, was the Coricidin HBP.  I gave her two tablets and she was able to rest comfortably for a few hours. Myself, I will certainly take this cold and flu med the next time I am so blessed with having a dreadful cold or the flu as I have high blood pressure.
