ZAGGfolio Review

Thanks to the folks at ZAGG, I was given the opportunity to review a ZAGGfolio for the iPad 2. I cannot say enough about this product! It has simplified and amplified the way I am able to use my iPad 2.

What exactly is the ZAGGfolio? As described on their website – which I find to be an extremely accurate description – ” The ZAGGfolio is an impressively thin multi-function iPad folio case for Apple® iPad® 2, complete with a removable Bluetooth keyboard and a built-in stand system, ideal for on-the-go use.”

About the case – The case is extremely sturdy as you can see from the pictures below. In these pictures, the unit is being used on my bed. My daughter is using the case as a stand, as she likes to touch the screen on the iPad. I, on the other hand, prefer using the keyboard.
I am able to do so, just as you see it positioned below. The ZAGGfolio case does not collapse as my leather folio does on the same terrain. The beauty of the ZAGGfolio, is that you can chose your color options for the case and the keyboard. For a limited time you can create your own look out of the color options seen above…how cool is that?

About the keyboard – The keyboard comes with its own charging cable; however, you will not be needing to charge the keyboard often. I’ve had the product about a month now, and only charged it the day I received it. The case will go into sleep mode if left on and isn’t being used – a real battery saver. Simply press a key and within 2-3 seconds, you’ll be up and running again. This is such a great feature for those who get interrupted often.

The keyboard can amazingly accomplish all of the following functions:

Home – Brings you to the iPad 2 home screen
Search – Brings up the iPad 2 search screen
Slideshow – Starts playing slideshow of saved pictures
Virtual keyboard – Allows you to hide or show iPad 2 on-screen keyboard
Lock – makes the iPad 2 screen go dark and come back when pressed again
International Keyboard – Toggles between international keyboards
Other function keys: Cut, Copy, Paste, Undo, Redo
Music function keys: Previous track, Play/Pause, Next track, Mute, Volume down, Volume up

Heelys Review

I was given the opportunity to try the famous one wheeled shoe called Heelys. The particular shoe I opted for was the Double Threat Heelys. They are beauties! Heelys are a very well constructed shoe having a great deal of padding throughout the tongue, the foot-bed and the sides. The shoe is double stitched throughout. The outer material was of substance – not a flimsy material. This particular shoe looked as sharp in person as they do online and were comfortable just to wear about. With many different styles to choose from, you can be sure to find a pair you’d like.

Now mind you, I’ve never been on roller skates, so I wasn’t sure what to expect once I got these on my feet. However, I was eager to make them go so I could go wheeling with my daughter who is on her third pair. The first step for me was to view the Skate 101 Tutorial on how to work these babies. Skate 101 also has other tutorials such as The Safety Playbook and Responsible Skating. In addition, if you’re looking to perform some tricks with your Heelys you’ll find them on this page.

Thinking I was good to go, I inserted the wheels – Heelys come with wheel plugs in the bottom of the shoe that pop out so that you can insert the wheels. To aid you in completing this task – they come with a tool designed just for this. Now came the fun part…and oh dear! Without the wheel in the base of the shoe, I was good to go; but no matter how hard I tried to get myself wheeling, I couldn’t do it. My daughter was laughing hysterically at me, and in the same breath, I could hear the frustration in her voice because she couldn’t understand why I was having such a hard time. She kept saying – “Mom – it’s not hard watch me.” She proceeded to put her Heelys on and skate around the house like there was nothing to it. I decided to put the wheels away and try again another day.

The day came and we tried again. I had just as much of a hard time as I had the first time. So for the purposes of getting a video, I turned the Heelys over to my daughter and said…help me please – I’m begging you! Luckily, for me she agreed, despite once getting the shoes she found they were a tad bit too big for her feet as I suspected they would be. I had a solution though – two pairs of thick socks! On they went and she was off wheeling around. I have not given up though! I am determined to go ‘wheeling’ with my daughter!

With there being so many traditional costumes in brick and mortar stores, I was looking for that special costume that didn’t fit that bill and went browsing Halloween costumes online. When I did, I found myself looking at sexy 80’s costumes to see if there was anything that would strike my fancy. In doing so, my daughter saw what I was doing, and said “Mom – mom! See that costume, I want it.” Well, ‘that’ costume she picked out was not happening! She’s a young teenager and I have to put limits on what is acceptable and not acceptable…besides – I wasn’t looking for a costume for her! As I continued to browse through the costumes with eyes peering over my shoulder, I hear her say, “Oh mom, you have to get me that costume, please – begging me” referring to the Women’s Deluxe 80’s New Wave Costume below.

I had to ask, “Why that one?” She says, “It’s really cool, I will look like I glow-in-the-dark .” You have to know my daughter – anything that is glow-in-the-dark is for her. Anything that turns her tongue blue – is for her. I told her if I got that costume for her, she’d HAVE to wear leggings and there’d be no heels like in the picture, and – no heavy make-up. She agreed. She asked if she could put colored hair spray in her hair; which that’s fine with me that washes out.

I proceeded to order the costume. I ordered an extra small after viewing the size chart, which I will say, is very accurate. I knew the costume may be a tad bit big because she’s between a 3 and 4. However, as far as length – since she’s so tall, ordering a woman’s size works better than children’s XL costumes. I then made a huge mistake by telling her I ordered it. Well – every day until it’s arrival, I heard – did the costume arrive yet? Did you get the mail today? Can we go get the mail? When will it get here? She was driving me nuts!! Finally, I was put out of my misery and the package came. She opened the package and headed right in to try it on. I hadn’t even gotten to check it out!

When she came out with it on – I have to say, it was adorable! This picture doesn’t do her, or the costume, justice. All those bracelets on her wrist matched the colors in the costume. She put on her leggings that I said she had to wear. The rest will follow on Halloween. Those sneakers on her feet – won’t be on her feet – they take away from the costume big time.

Finally, I got to examine the costume up close! The quality of the fishnet leggings had me a bit worried after placing the order. Much to my amazement; these leggings are not a thin fishnet, and have been sewn so they won’t come undone or tear along the seems. The rest of the costume is made of polyester and has substance to it. The seams were well constructed so I don’t have to worry about them coming apart by the end of the night. In fact, she’ll get a lot of use out of this costume and that pleases me.

Mixbooks Holiday Photo Card Review

Have you ever designed your own Christmas cards online? I hadn’t until recently when I was given the chance to at Mixbook.com. I was surprised with the many choices available for holiday photo cards. There were folded cards of many sizes, flat cards of many sizes, and many designs.

However, I was on a mission to design a 5×7 flat card with customizations that was printed on their budget coated card stock. The fact these were going to be printed on budget coated card stock had me a bit worried. I was worried the card would look cheap, feel cheap and the colors would be dull. Nevertheless, I continued on my merry way choosing my card. There were so many to chose from that I really had to take a good look at them all before I ended up choosing this card:

I was then taken to their designer/editor software where I customized my card. I have to say I had a lot of fun playing around while customizing my card. Their designer/editor is very easy to use. There are many options ranging from customizing your picture, the font, the opacity of the clipart and you see all those snowflakes – I was able to move them around! I was able to re-size them, lighten or darken them, and delete or add more of the same, easily! In fact, there are many different clipart images you can add to your card of choice! In addition, you can customize the back of the card. Here’s what the front of my card looked like finished:

Once finished, I placed my order and much to my amazement, the cards arrived at my door within a couple of days. I couldn’t wait to tear into the package to see how they came out. My worries of them not being of quality – was a waste of energy. I was very impressed with the thickness of the card, the vibrancy of the inks and they were far from feeling or looking cheap! Accompanying the cards were premium quality envelopes. We’re not talking thin, cheap envelopes but rather envelopes that had a substance to the paper. I would absolutely recommend you checking out their selection of holiday photo cards – I can’t imagine you’d be disappointed.

Werther’s Caramel Candy Review

Werther’s…need I say more? Okay, yes I must. I was recently given the opportunity to try products of theirs that I didn’t know existed! I was sent Werther’s Original Caramel Chocolates; Creamy Caramel Filled Hard Candies and their Chewy Caramels. I have to tell you, these candies were just yummy – simply yummy! I happen to love their original hard candy so I wasn’t surprised when I fell in love with these caramels.

Some caramels can be on the gritty side. I am sure this must be from the sugar not completely converting to a liquid during the cooking process and I have to say – not a texture I like for a caramel. The Werther’s Caramels weren’t gritty at all. Their consistency is smooth, creamy and pleasing to the pallet. The chocolate on the chocolate covered caramels was smooth and creamy as well.

There is no way that I would be able to have these in the house all the time. They are too good to stop at just one! If you haven’t tried these – pick yourself up a package and let me know what your thoughts are!

Esigns.com Banner Review

Winter is coming to my house! Check out this 3′ x 6′ banner I designed at Esigns.com, and I must say, I had way too much fun doing it too! Originally I was going to put my blog header on the banner; however when I got into their user-friendly designer/editor, my mind was changed fast. I found a huge selection of backgrounds to chose from for an assortment of occasions. They have backgrounds for outdoor banners, personalized banners, college banners, church banners, birthday banners, and more. Plus, you can customize a banner by uploading a photo of yours! There are several different sizes to chose from. And, should you need a banner stand – Esigns sells those too.

This picture shows a few of the choices from their already for you to customize banner selection. You will notice, mine is the one on the bottom right. My background went from the blank slate below –

Using their designer/editor, I was able to add clipart – placing it wherever I wished to. Their collection of clipart is extensive. In addition, I could change the colors on parts of the clipart as well as the entire image. Customizing the text ranged from being able to change the font, to the colors of the text, to outlining the lettering and location, and angling of the text.

Since I wasn’t able to finish my banner in one sitting, I created an account and saved my project, which allowed me to sign back in and pick up right where I left off. Once I was satisfied with my design, I placed my order and anxiously waited for its arrival.

The package arrived – much sooner than I expected! I was amazed as I unrolled it. I didn’t expect the banner to be made of such a good quality vinyl. It’s a lot thicker than I thought it would be. The vibrancy of the colors is stunning. There are three grommets along the top and three along the bottom for hanging purposes.

I will tell you, the banner is so well constructed, that I am confident it will withstand New England winters if hung properly. Given where I will be hanging it, as an added measure, I may use some Velcro along the sides to secure it well from the NH wintry winds.

Prefense Foaming Hand Sanitizer – Review and Giveaway

When I heard I was selected to review this product…I was all to excited as it couldn’t have happened at a better time. Prefense Foaming Hand Sanitizer has won me over and my 13 yr. old daughter too!

You see, school started back up about a month ago, and my daughter has another teacher this year who insists on all the kids using a hand sanitizer as they walk through her classroom door. The problem with this – the back of my daughter’s hands become so red raw from using these sanitizers. I told my daughter to ask this teacher if she could use the Prefense. The teacher told her it was okay, and after using the Prefense for the past three weeks, my daughter’s hands are still free from being red raw; unlike other hand sanitizers, which leave her skin red raw in a week or so. I feel it’s safe to assume the alcohol in the other sanitizers (up to 62%) were the cause of the red raw hands.
