The deadline of July 9th to to check your PC for the DNSChanger Malware is coming near.  If you don’t fix your infected computer you may lose email and web browsing capabilities.

The Fells Connection had this to say:

“The FBI has taken down an International Cyber Ring that has infected millions of computers world wide with malicious software. You need to check your computer so that you don’t lose the ability to connect to the Internet!

Here is a March 12, 2012 update from the FBI -“To assist victims affected by the DNSChanger malicious software, the FBI obtained a court order authorizing the Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) to deploy and maintain temporary clean DNS servers. This solution is temporary, providing additional time for victims to clean affected computers and restore their normal DNS settings. The clean DNS servers will be turned off on July 9, 2012, and computers still impacted by DNSChanger may lose Internet connectivity at that time.” DNS-Domain Name System-is a critical Internet service that converts user-friendly domain names, such as www.fbi.gov, into numerical addresses that allow computers to talk to each other. Without DNS and the DNS servers operated by Internet service providers, computer users would not be able to browse websites or send e-mail.

You can test to see if you are affected by going to the following FBI website: https://forms.fbi.gov/check-to-see-if-your-computer-is-using-rogue-DNS and click on the first entry in the table labeled for english.

If this Check-Up site indicates that you are affected by DNSChanger, then visit http://www.dcwg.org/fix/ for information on how to address this problem. You may have to click on this web site several times to get it to open. If it is busy you will get the message Service Unavailable. Please try again later.”

When I was a little girl, my grandma used to warm a block of soapstone in the oven. Once warm, she’d wrap it in a towel for me to put at the foot of my bed to warm my feet. When I saw these Whiskey Stones – I had to see what they were about. I was amazed to learn they are made from soapstone.   It seems as though soapstone is good for freezing and then adding to drinks instead of ice which waters drinks down.  They’re even dishwasher safe  – I would’ve never thought!

Heather Lily today

**What you are about to read is the account of a mom’s battle with malignant pleural mesothelioma.  It’s a true story, sad and yet, very touching.  I felt compelled to help her spread the word of her battle – a battle that any mother could be a victim to.  Today, Heather’s hope is to bring awareness to this awful disease and how it took a village to help her through a very difficult time of her life.**

I had heard “it takes a village to raise a child,” but I never understood it until after Heathers story
I had my daughter. When she was born on August 4, 2005, I had no clue that my life was about to change in ways I couldn’t imagine.

Upon returning to work, I experienced a constant tiredness and shortness of breath. I was tempted to dismiss it as normal, new-motherhood exhaustion, but couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that something else was wrong.

After a full battery of tests, I was diagnosed with malignant pleural mesothelioma, a cancer of the tissue that lines the lungs. Apparently, I had been exposed to asbestos as a child, causing me to suddenly develop this deadly cancer 30 years later.

priceblink 2

There are so many websites that now have their own browser add-ons for when shopping online. That being said, have you heard of Price Blink?  They too, have their own browser add-on to help you get the best possible price for what you’re looking to buy online.  I’ve been using it for a few weeks now, and consistently when I shop online, their add-on loads with any coupons or promo codes I will find on that site without crashing or being invasive.  In addition – this browser add-on will let you know if you can find the item you’re shopping for cheaper on another online retailer!  If you’re a frugal shopper, then this add-on will save you lots of time!

I know you’re saying – why would I want another shopping browser add-on?  I’ll tell you why – you want to get the best deal possible!  Did you know, that often times the websites with browser add-ons as such, have their own coupon and promo codes specifically related to their site?  What this means is that you can find a coupon or promo code that you’ll only find on their site.  This is why I have many shopping browser add-ons.  When I am not in need of using them – I simply disable them and when I do need them, I will enable them just while I shop.

As far as Price Blink’s browser add-on I did not find it to be invasive at all.  If I am not interested in seeing any deals on a site I am on, I simply close out the add-on using the little ‘x’ at the top right of the add-on.  In addition, one can ‘hide’ coupons for any merchant they choose.  And then again, if you know of a promo or coupon code that’s not listed on their site, Price Blink invites you to add it.

Click to enlarge – you will see how you click on the ‘down’ arrow to view all the options the add-on has.

This picture shows you how you can get alerts delivered to your inbox for coupons as they become available for a store. This is nice as you don’t have to spend time searching for the coupon codes or promo codes.

Why not give Priceblink a try?  The browser add-on is available for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, IE and the iPad!  Lifehacker called PriceBlink one of their Top 10 Must-Have Browser Extensions and is certified by Softpedia to be 100% clean.

How exciting!  New England Bloggers Media (NEBM) had their very first meet up in Concord NH on Saturday, June 23, 2012. McDonalds.com sponsored the event and the McDonald’s on Loudon Road (Concord) were very kind to host the event for them.

A BIG thanks to both!

Since this was their very first event for the New England Bloggers Media group, they were all pretty excited about meeting each other.

Those who were able to attend this event were:

Their agenda wasn’t rigid this time around – it was more of a meet and greet.  They were all able to bring valuable information to the table.

Charmingfare Farm – an attraction in southern NH – sponsored a package for a review and a giveaway to one blogger.  If you’re looking to visit NH or live in NH and would like a chance at winning the giveaway – be sure to watch for Mom Does Reviews – review/giveaway, coming up in the near future.

fanny pack

See this leather fanny pack waist bag?  I wish these were around when my children were small.  Carrying them, or an infant seat, and a purse – was the pits.  Since learning of fanny packs, I have been using them for years, instead of a pocketbook/purse.  I LOVE them.   fanny packThey are great for when you don’t want to carry a purse around all day – like if you’re going to an amusement park, playground, hiking, casino, the zoo, or even just shopping.

I just bought this one – it was one of the first ones I purchased, but couldn’t find it again anywhere, until last week.  I prefer fanny packs that aren’t the patched leather as they seem to hold up longer and they are better looking – this one is not patched leather.

This particular one is LOADED with compartments.  Four large zippered compartments with there being two inner zippered compartments, slots for my credit cards and my license.  In fact, there are so many compartments that I forget which compartment I put what in.  The largest of the compartments is huge and is located in the middle.  My cell fits nicely in the cell holder.  I can store my credit cards away from my money and change.   For the $20 I paid for this – I am a very happy camper to have found this one again.
