I recently had the opportunity to experience Litter One – the eco-friendly litter box system – a 100% biodegradable, disposable, self-contained litter system – including the packaging.

Arriving in a biodegradable box, ready to be assembled – the assembly couldn’t be any easier.  A few folds of the cardboard and you’re done.  The system is not made of flimsy cardboard.  It’s thick and will not easily bend out of shape.  And when all set up – the litter box measures 19″ L x 14″ W x 9″ H sides; front opening = 4 1/2″ H x 11″ W.

Pine pellets are used as litter and remind me of rabbit/guinea pig grain pellets.  So, how do these pellets work?

  • Pine pellets cover up odors with a natural scent and are up to four times more absorbent
  • Litter One uses post-waste pellets that are 100% natural and 100% safe for the environment
  • Pine pellets have no dust and are less messy than clay litter products
  • Pine is biodegradable and breaks down quickly in landfills

Honestly when I first saw the pellets, I wasn’t too sure that my cats would take to this ‘new’ litter.  And at first they didn’t even go near the box, however by adding some of their own litter to the box as suggested, they were more receptive of checking it out.  Below you see Miss Fabuleau snooping about – she actually started to dig herself a hole before she got interrupted.

Unfortunately at this time I can’t tell you how easy to clean it is, as my cats haven’t used it.  It’s summertime and all of my fur babies go outside.  I have one that traditionally would use the litter box during the summer – but I guess she has decided to be like the rest, as she hasn’t bothered this summer.  Come winter though, I do think they will use it.

For the sake of this review – I did use a bit of water on a few of the pellets to see what happened to them.  And within a few seconds, they dissolved into a sawdust consistency.  That said, what the company says about the pellets “falling through the perforated false floor” – I believe.

All in all, I think that this is a great system.  I believe it would be effective in doing what it is suppose to do.  I like that the top is open for the mere fact that I have some large cats.  The litter boxes that have covers do not work for us.  I like that the pellets, when wet, will separate from the rest of the litter and drop into the bottom floor.  I also like that they are made of pine and contains no chemicals, no additives and no artificial fragrances (cats have allergies too).  I like that bags are provided to clean up the feces as well as a scoop that will aid in that task.  I like that the system is completely biodegradable, 100% Eco-Friendly – saving our precious environment.

If you think you’d like to try this litter system out for yourself, head on over to the Litter One Website.  Use promo code SW12521 to receive $5.00 off your purchase!

  1. I really like this idea. I have two cats and the litter box can be rough at times!

  2. I have used the pine litter and it is a lot better than the clay litter and like you said, better for the environment.
