As a typical teenager, Travis Freeman (Mark Hapka) is a local hero both on and off the high-school football field in his small Kentucky town, but in 1997, Travis contracts an infection that destroys his optic nerve and renders him blind overnight. With the loving help and concern of his parents, physical therapist, coach and best friend, Travis demonstrates what true bravery is: He continues to compete on the gridiron and helps his team advance to the state finals.

Our Take of 23 Blast

For starters, we love movies that are based on true stories. When you add to the plot a medically based issue – then we find ourselves compelled to watch the movie.

One can have a medical issue from birth or they can live years before one transpires. I’ve always said that I am thankful that my severely disabled son, who has been that way since he was 3-weeks old, never knew what it was like to walk, to play – he’s never missed anything because he never had it to begin with. Ironically, my son, has optic nerve damage that left him blind in one eye from a brain hemorrhage.

That said, when Travis lost his eyesight from an infection that one day just overtook his body leaving him with optical nerve damage – he became blind. Something he once had was gone – completely gone. How does one cope with that? How does the family cope with that?

In this inspiring movie you will see how Travis, his parents, and friends overcome the adversity that has been dealt their way. As a mother of a severely disabled child, I could completely relate with how Travis’ mom was feeling about the entire situation. I give much credit to Travis’ dad for handling the situation as he did – my son’s father didn’t, walking out on us and that’s hard to swallow.

It’s not easy to hear that your child has a disability that effects his sole being. It’s not easy to comprehend that this precious child you gave birth to is experiencing life in a way that’s not been an envisionment from the day of conception – even before.

So, as this movie unfolded, my heart, as did my teen’s and her friend’s, sank for Travis and his family. We watched this beautiful family have to deal with adversity that was so unexpected. But…they prevailed.

Travis found strength to believe in himself through the help of others believing in him. His mother, she found strength when she needed it most, and dad – he went with the flow and came out on top too. And the state of Kentucky is to be recommended for the laws they have in place for individuals facing adversity as such.

I don’t want to give away the end of this heart-warming story. You need to see how Travis helps his team move on to the state finals! It’s a movie that everyone should watch because one never knows when adversity will hit close to home. It’s one that will give you the reason to believe miracles do happen, and no matter the circumstance, you can prevail. I will tell you though – the ending is miraculous.

23 Blast is a must see movie – it will make you thankful for having the gifts you have and it will make you realize that you can change the life of another who is faced with such adversity.

I have to admit – before being offered this product to review – I NEVER heard of Emu Oil – never. I had no idea what it was used for. So I did some research before accepting the offer to review the OOROOBA Ultra Clear Emu Oil and said to myself yep, I need to try this product.

Through my research I learned that Emu Oil has a lot of benefits. The first and foremost is that it is used as an anti-inflammatory for muscle and joint pain. Other uses are: for burns, dry skin, psoriasis, eczema, rheumatoid arthritis – to name a few. And believe it or not – one will find it in cosmetics such as moisturizers, eye creams, and hair products.

Our Findings

Consistency

The Oorooba Emu Oil when first applied feels like that of a light suntan oil. It quickly is absorbed by the skin – like almost instantly – leaving the area that it has been applied to feeling silky soft and not greasy. A little of this oil – goes a long way. For instance, I dabbed a drop from the bottle onto the back of my hand and was able to distribute it to both hands – front and back.

And you want to hear something crazy? After I applied it to my hands – one of my cats – she started licking it off. Normally I wouldn’t allow something like this but sometimes animals know things we don’t. If you’ve never tried putting colloidal silver into your pets water and then a bowl of plain water next to it try it. Ninety-nine percent (99%) of the time, they will go for the water with the colloidal silver. It’s kinda like when animals eat grass when their tummies are upset – they just know what is okay.

Color

The color of this oil is a clear cloudy color – but remember – I have never tried another brand so I cannot compare the color of this oil to one I’ve previously used. Though – it’s said that depending on the diet of the Emu – the oil color can vary.

I also was having issues with my shoulder and couldn’t get to the chiropractor for an adjustment (yes, they can fix shoulder issues – often caused by the collar bone being out of place). So I applied this to the area to see if it would help the pain. It did – but not to the point where it took it completely away. That said, I didn’t expect it to completely take the pain away; because my shoulder was in severe pain to the point that I could hardly move it.

All in all – I will continue to use the OOROOBA Ultra Clear Emu Oil. Honestly, I can’t wait to try it on a burn!

Okay, so when I was asked if I’d like to review Susie’s Hope DVD – a movie based on a true story of unfathomable animal abuse – I hemmed and hawed.

You see, as I began to read what the movie was about I just didn’t know if I could bring myself to watch this movie. I just didn’t think I could do it. We weren’t put on this earth to be abused and neither were animals. Though, as I continued to read about the movie in the pitch letter, I felt compelled to watch it. I felt that I needed to see it and share with anyone and everyone the mission Donna accomplished in helping this abused animal and many others despite her devastating encounter with a pit bull. All of us can do our share in preventing animal abuse.

That said, it was a given that I’d ball my eyes out before the movie was over. I’m a huge animal lover and I cannot fathom the thought of any type of animal abuse – even though I know it’s all around us just as humans are abused day in and day out. I just don’t understand how anyone could hurt a living being – human or animal. It makes me sick inside to think of this happening in our world.

The sad thing is – animals have no voice, unlike us humans. We have to be their advocates. There are many laws in place for hurting humans – not so many for animals. And if there are laws in place – many aren’t as strong as they should be. This is where Susie’s Hope sends a huge message to the world. Us humans can change the way animals are treated – how the abuser pays his dues for being so cruel.

About the movie

Based on the true story that successfully passed Susie’s Law in North Carolina, which seeks stricter punishment for animal abusers, Susie’s Hope brings to life the inspirational relationship between pit bull attack survivor Donna Lawrence and Susie, a pit bull-mix puppy found beaten, burned and left for dead. Recognizing reflect and abuse were to blame for the tragic attack that nearly claimed her life 10 months earlier, Donna resumes the battered animal and accepts her as family. Together, they learn to heal, love and forgive as they lead a historic effort to seek justice and protection, not only for Susie, but all animals. Starring Emmanuelle Vaguer (40 Days and 40 Nights), Burgess Jenkins (Remember The Titans) and Andrea Powell (Ender’s Game, The Twighlight: Breaking Dawn Saga: Part 2), Susie’s Hope is an incredible story of love, loss and redemption.

Can you see from reading about the movie how hard it could be for someone who loves animals to watch it? Seriously – an animal left for dead that has been found beaten and burned? Personally, I’d love to have the punishment for the abuser to be abused the same way they abused the animal – that would work well for me – but that don’t even happen for hurting humans, so it’s not going to happen to those who abuse animals.

So my daughter and I set out to watch Susie’s Hope, and yes, I could not help myself from crying at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end. Some of the crying was from seeing how this helpless animal struggled. Some of the crying was from how the animal and and it’s rescuer were being torn apart. But in the end – the tears – those were tears of joy.

Joy that what once the abuser wasn’t going to be convicted of his crime – ended up being convicted due to another human voice speaking up. And more tears of joy that the dog’s rescuer won a feat to protect animals from being abused now called Susie’s Law.

Susie’s Law – a new law was born to protect animals from abuse where the abuser receives stricter penalties.

Susie was found nearly dead in Greenfield Park in Greensboro, North Carolina on August 20, 2009. Just a puppy, Susie had licked the face of her owner’s newborn baby. Her owner became violent—she was beaten so severely her jaw was broken. That wasn’t enough, though. She was then set on fire and left for dead. Incredibly and against all odds Susie survived. Donna Lawrence adopted her two months later. Susie is now a trained therapy dog and event won the American Humane Association’s American Hero Dog this year!

Recently, I could have created an entry in this book. Our wonderful dog, Gracie, decided that she was going to be a bad dog. Our Findings:

Let me just say, I’m loving this product. I’ve been using it about two months now. I was sent a 1.7 oz size bottle that dispenses the serum through a pump, and it’s still going strong. Number One Nutrition Advanced Probiotics Review

I’m bringing you this Number One Nutrition Advanced Probiotics Review that couldn’t have come at a better time for me. For the past 9 weeks I have lived a nightmare from having an abscessed tooth. Now mind you, I take good care of my teeth but this one tooth – seemed to think I needed to experience a nightmare.

I lost a huge filling in it back about six months ago. This filling was one that probably has been in my tooth for 35 years. That said, the dentist did all she could to try to save this tooth by refilling it. The problem lied where the filling broke away from the inside close to the nerves in the tooth and when she went to fill it again – she said it may not work. She didn’t know if she could clean the area out well enough to have it not cause problems for me down the road. Never though, did she indicate that I would have such a horrible experience if the filling didn’t work.

One Thursday I woke up with an egg on my face. In less than 24 hours the tooth abscessed to the point that the swelling was headed for my neck area – which when that starts to happen – one NEEDS help right away. If the swelling gets to your airways – your breathing can be blocked and there’s a huge chance you’ll go sepsis.

To make a long story short – I was given 3 regimens of oral antibiotics AND 6 days of IV antibiotics. The area was opened, cleaned of bad tissue, and irrigated three times after the tooth was pulled. Note – I could have opted for a root canal – but that won’t ever happen in this lifetime. Research is discovering that root canals can be the cause for underlying diseases, including MS.

Now – if you have a good physician who prescribes you antibiotics – he/she will tell you to get yourself a good probiotic to take in conjunction with your antibiotics. The ER physician did just that and ironically, I had told her that I had been taking them the past couple of weeks. She was thrilled to hear this. But what I didn’t know is that I should have been taking a higher dosage than the two prescribed on the bottle during the time I was taking the antibiotics. Ideally, I should have been taking 100 Billion CFU’s daily. I also learned that one should be taking the probiotics 2 hours after the antibiotic.

The probiotic that I was taking prior to the tooth event was the one I am writing this review on. It’s the Number One Nutrition Advanced Probiotics sold at Amazon.com. This particular probiotic has 10 Billion CFU’s (colony forming units). I am led to believe this product has done its job. Throughout the weeks of antibiotics and now about 3 weeks of being off them – I have yet to develop any diarrhea, which is what antibiotics can do to people.
