Bath scales. Love them? Hate them? Personally, I haven’t owned one in a good 15 yrs. That said, when I the opportunity to review the Ozeri Rev™ Digital Bath Scale with Electro-Mechanical Dial, I took it as a sign that I should have one now.
Back in the day when I owned a scale – the scales were heavy and mechanical. That said, I really wasn’t sure what to expect of the Ozeri Rev™ Digital Bath Scale with Electro -Mechanical Dial. Much to my surprise, when I opened the box, I discovered the footbed was made of glass! What a concept. The glass lends a modern feel – and being glass – it’s so easy to keep clean. Simply use a damp cloth – no chemicals of any sort, and don’t immerse the scale in water. Moisture can damage the scale’s sensors and electronics.
As you see in the picture above – the scale has a dual display readout – a digital readout and one that you would see on a mechanical scale. Another feature of the dial being digital and mechanical is that the numbers of each type of readout are large. Now that is very cool…especially for those who have vision problems. Even better – the scale’s display readout, lights up whether you’re weighing yourself in darkness or in the light.
The scale operates on 3 AAA batteries. We’ve had the scale about a month, month and a half now in which the scale has been kept in the dining room for a reason. That reason being that I wanted to see how long the batteries would last. Much to my surprise – after as many times as we’ve gotten on the scale, and as many times the cats have sat on the scale and set the dial off (the minimum weight capacity is 11lbs and all my cats are well over 10lbs with the exception of two), as well as showing the scale to friends and family which of course would lead to them trying it out – the batteries are still going strong. That said, when the batteries do need replacing – the digital display would read “Lo.”
Take a look at that dial in darkness…it’s beauteous! I can clearly see both displays without having to strain my eyes.
The scale can be set to read out in lbs. (pounds) or in kg (kilograms). If you were to weigh yourself in the kg mode – you must remember to multiply the digits on the dial by 2.2 to get the figure that you weight in pounds. The scale can weigh a person up to 400lbs and once you’ve jumped off the scale – the display will continue to show your weight for 15 secs.
Another cool feature to this scale is that it has an alarm! The alarm can be set to go off every day at the same time. Yep, that’s right. Often times those with medical conditions – especially heart disease or have had heart surgery – they need to weigh themselves each day and preferably at the same time of the day. What this does for medical providers is that if they see an increase in weight in a short time span – that weight gain often represents fluid retention around the heart and lungs. That in turn means that the patient needs to be x-rayed to see where the fluid is building up. Once they find the location – they can drain the fluid out with syringes
It’s also said that one should weigh themself at the same time each day in order to get a more accurate weight measure. The alarm will allow one to do just that. There’s no forgetting and no having to remember to jump on the scale at 6am or 6pm.
The only drawback to the scale I found – was that the display dial protruded past the base of the scale – which in turn makes it so that it takes up more space – space that I already have a lack of. That said, once it moves out of the dining room its new home will have to be in my bedroom. If worse comes to worse – I may need to store it upright and pull it out when I want to weigh myself – no biggie there – I’ll just burn more calories :).
Want to see a drastic drop in your weight? Do not weigh yourself on the Ozeri Rev Digital Bath Scale with Electro-Mechanical Dial while the scale is on carpet…well, that is, unless you want a very inaccurate weight reading! I tried it and I weight 60+ lbs – LESS 🙂
