I spend A LOT of time on the web.  I spend a lot of time researching.  I spend a lot of time reading blogs, reading how to better my blog, entering giveaways, reading email and more.  Needless to say, I usually have roughly 13-15 Chrome windows open with multiple tabs open in each window at any given time.  I would love to cut that down for the mere fact that Chrome is always telling me my usage is high.  Well…I think I have found the way to do this!  A new site called clipix may just become my new best friend.  With clipix I won’t be bookmarking and then hunting forever for the link I want – all my clips will be neatly organized all in one place.  Clipix will be a great way for me to start reorganizing all my current bookmarks, which are a disaster because I have so many.

Clipix is a FREE website where you sign up and then drag the “Clip” button to your bookmarks bar.  Then whenever you see anything online that you’d like to go back to, simply clip it to one of your clipboards.  Since you can create many clipboards – you can easily manage the clips you’ve saved.  In addition, there are Syncboards.  These allow you to clip and share your clips with anyone you collaborate with and they’ll see it in real-time.  Here’s a screen shot of one of my clipix boards I just started:

For me, I would be clipping a lot of things just for me to see.  This would keep my level of windows down and possibly – get Chrome off my back!

Check out how it works:

One of my dreams is to put all my photos into scrapbooks for my daughter.  Okay realistically – I don’t think I could accomplish scrapbooking 50 years worth of photos…but I can dream that I can.  I actually wish scrapbooking was something I grew up with – it would be so much easier than starting now – oh well, such is life.  I will do what I can and know that I at least gave it a shot!  That being said I am going to start with my digital pictures and I am going to let My Memories digital scrapbooking software assist me.

I’ve tried a few programs – just to play around with over the years  to create cards, invites and so on; but I found with those programs that every time I upgraded my computer to a different Windows – that software was useless. My Memories isn’t like that. They offer upgrades at a discounted price. Not only that, but if you’re looking to scrapbook a wedding there’s a software just for that – the ‘My Memories Wedding Studio.’ And, there’s also the My Memories Photobook Studio software.

The suite software is quite intensive – but not hard to use.  There are over 1500 papers and over 1000 page elements to make your creations.  That being said, I had quite the time trying to figure out which elements and papers I wanted to use because I wanted to show you several on one page.  I added to the template (on right) the following:

  • I cropped each photo
  • The scrolls
  • The buttons
  • The bow on pic 2
  • The bottom checkered banner
  • The text (Happy Holidays was already on the paper – I just made it smaller and moved it)
  • The colored box behind the text (1st pic)
  • I rotated the pics
  • The blue outline around the pics
  • And – I removed a bunch of snowflakes that were on the template to begin with
The shaded area around the page is to indicate to you what you would lose of the page should you have it bound into a book.  Don’t fret – you can move all the elements you see if you know that’s what you’re going to be doing.  Honestly, I spent a lot more time on creating this page but that was my doings. I found myself having to try out a ton of page elements – just because.  I’m sure you could create a page in less than 10 mins. if even that, once you learn the program.

Don’t want to use their templates?  You don’t have to.  You can create your own pages from scratch – like the one below.  I started with a white slate adding all the elements you see starting with the button in the middle.  I then added:

  • The style of paper (notice the texture)
  • The color I wanted the paper to be
  • The Word Art at the top (click the picture – you see the effect I gave it)
  • The scalloped frame which I changed to the color I wanted and size
  • The flower which I sized and rotated the way I wanted it to be displayed
  • And then I had to play around with the Word Art some more (I really like this feature!)

I then exported the page from my album in order to upload it to this review.  You can even add music and narration to your creations – which I would have done had I had a good mic.

My Memories just implemented the Design Club.  The club is extremely affordable and you get a lot for your money.  For more details on the Design Club go {HERE}.
Follow My Memories on Facebook and Twitter to stay up on the latest news, meet some scrapbooking friends and share your pages.  In addition, My Memories can be found on YouTube.
The best part (for me anyway) is to be able to offer you this coupon code – STMMMS15607 to receive $10 off your purchase of the software and you can use the code to receive $10 off in the store.  The regular price of the Suite is $39.97, but you can get it for $29.97.  You ask – is it worth it? ABSOLUTELY!  You have no idea what I have running through my mind that I can’t wait to do with this program besides scrapbooking.  I know, I know – I’ll never get the scrapbooks done for my daughter.

And should you like to try winning the software?  My Memories is giving one of my readers the chance to do so!  You can do just that below – Good Luck!

Do you shop at Dollar General? If so, don’t miss out on this 50% off coupon.  The coupon is good through 2/19/2012 and is for 50% off your purchase of ALL Home Decor, Housewares, Kitchen, Bed Pillows, Sheets, and Rugs.

I wish we had a Dollar General in my area!  I could go on quite the shopping spree.  I see many items on their website that I could really use.

Like all this:

  • I would stock up on Tri-level candles.  They’re normally $5, so 1/2 off would be $2.50.  I could get 4 for $10…that’s a STEAL!
  • There’s the Benrus Wall Clock – it has nice big numbers and I’d put it in my son’s room.  There’s also a Sharp Quartz Analog Alarm Clock – which I desperately need one of these – one I can’t hold in my hand.  I tend to hold mine in my hand and keep hitting snooze – until snooze no longer is snooze…but off!
  • My sister is coming – so I could really use a shower liner for the spare bathroom that never gets used except for storage.
  • There’s a lot more I’m sure I’d find in-store:)

Whitney Houston touched many lives.  The voice she brought to the music world was outstanding. The words in her songs comforted many people.  But one thing Whitney never knew – was the joy she brought to my son’s life.  My son, whom is severely disabled (physically and developmentally) due to a brain hemorrhage at three weeks of age, took to MTV when he was no more than a year old.  He loved MTV.  He loved Michael Jackson, Starship Enterprise, Bon Jovi, Whitney Houston and later on – Billy Ray Cyrus.  That being said – Ryan had his favorites and Whitney was one of them and he made that quite clear.

Whitney’s hit song, “The Greatest Love of All” first aired in 1986.  It was a huge hit for my son – she brightened his world more than she will ever know.  When the video came on MTV – he would hoot and holler like no other with such excitement, rocking back and forth as hard as he could whether he was sitting propped up on the couch or strapped into his tumble-form chair.  As Ryan rocked – his arms would go a hundred miles an hour. The same year this song went live, my ex and I separated. Finding it hard at times to deal – I would pack up Ryan and we’d ride around in the car listening to music on the radio.  If Whitney’s song aired – there you would see my son in his car seat – screaming with excitement – trying to rock as hard as he could despite how well he was strapped in.

Then there were the times I found it necessary to take my son grocery shopping with me.  Not an easy task as he didn’t sit well in the shopping cart seat – but we managed.  Well, I guess the little man decided grocery shopping wasn’t for him.  After a few times – he screamed as we’d head into the store – and not because he was excited!  You would have thought I was hurting this kid physically.  He would cry – scream – it was awful!  I didn’t know what to do.  Continued….

Then I got this brainstorm.  What if I bought a cassette tape player and put headphones on him to let him listen to his music while we shopped.  I wasn’t sure this would be a go because he didn’t like to have his head touched at all – but I felt it was worth a try.  Do you know – once he realized Whitney was singing (I’d put the headphone up to his ear) – he was as happy as could be.  He allowed the headphones to go on his head – he’d even keep them there.  He would sit in that cart seat hooting and hollering with excitement.  He would try to rock in the seat – just like at home and in the car.  People would stop and say to me – he’s such happy child.  I would reply with, “As long as he has his Whitney playing, he’s as happy as can be.”  Eventually, I made a tape of all the songs from the artists he really likes – best thing I ever did!  We could go anywhere and he’d be very content.

I never wrote to Whitney to tell her how much she touched his life, and I really wish I had now.  She was the first who touched him so deeply.  Billy Ray Cyrus came second and he still touches Ryan deeply – we have to have his CD on every morning while we’re getting him up.  He knows the songs so well, that he says the words before they’re sung (so much for being a vegetable they told me he’d be).

The difference though – we got to meet Billy Ray in person, one on one after a performance here in NH.  It was a very special time – more so for me because I wanted Billy to know how much he touched Ryan’s life.  Ryan was front row and center of the stage and Billy Ray made eye contact with Ryan several times.  After the show, we were escorted out the back where he met Ryan.  He signed a cap for Ryan, a picture and we got pictures of us with Billy Ray.  I gave Billy Ray a VCR tape of Ryan being casted for a body brace – which I heard he actually viewed.  If it weren’t for Billy’s songs – the casting would NEVER have happened.  Ryan may not have understood the whole deal in meeting Billy Ray – but I’m glad Billy Ray knows how much he touched my son’s life – I just wished Whitney had too.

As I sit here wishing Whitney had known – I think Whitney’s daughter would appreciate knowing how much her mother meant to a young child – I may just have to write to her 🙂  Whitney will always live on.  She’ll always be remembered for the lives she had touched.
