As a mother of a disabled son, I had to “learn” how to shave him. At first, I was petrified to shave him, as I was afraid he would fight me and I would end up cutting him.  Luckily though, I had an LNA that said she would be willing to do it, so I jumped at the offer!

My to my amazement, my son got used to being shaved faster than I thought he would.  Fabulous!  Now I had another problem to solve. Shaving him was leaving his face red raw with a pimply rash.  Not knowing what the issue was, and certainly not knowing a thing about men’s shaving products, I started with changing the shaving cream being used.  Well…that didn’t work.  So I then purchased new razors which seemed to help a bit, but still his face had somewhat of a rash.  So I was like…now what?  There are just so many shaving products for men on the market I had no clue what to do next. That’s when I decided to pole other men.

This is what I learned:

  • Several didn’t like shaving, and didn’t, as it was too much of a bother…(ah…that’s why so many beards on the faces of men I knew…but not an option for my son…I like clean shaven faces)
  • Some despise electric razors…claiming that they pull the hair on their face…(okay, well I won’t waste my money on an electric razor…what if I got one that did the same?  I surely wasn’t gonna purchase several.)
  • Some liked women’s razors better (picture that!)
  • Some liked triple blades, over single or twin blades…(I tried them all…still there was a rash)
  • Some had to use an after shave…this didn’t work…(it seemed to make the rash worse)
  • Some had to use products for sensitive skin only…(this helped quite a bit when I used razors and shaving cream for sensitive skin combined, but didn’t work 100%)

What works for the man in your life?  I’d love to see no rash at all on my son’s face :-).

Do you worry about identity theft and identity fraud?  It happens in big cities, little cities, as well as rural towns, and everywhere in between – every day.

Let me tell you a true story.  Back about 13 years ago, I was working with a local agency in hopes to purchase a home.  The director and I met several times – a requirement for this program.  She would go over credit history, credit reports, home ownership etc, and at this one meeting, she spoke of identity theft.  She started filling me in on what it was – explaining all the little details.

I was wondering…why was she explaining this to me in such detail?  As the conversation furthered, she revealed she was a victim of identity theft.  What tipped her to learning about her identity being stolen was when a credit card company called her asking about a recent purchase.  First, she hadn’t made any purchase as they were describing.  She then learned the purchase had taken place in Nevada and wondered, how could this be?  She never had been to Nevada – and for that matter, hadn’t even been out of the State of NH, where she resided in a small rural town. What a mess she had on her hands…she explained.  She contacted all three credit bureaus requesting them to place a ‘fraud alert’ in her files.  She had to contact all her creditors.  She had to get the police involved.  She had to find a way to get her identity back!

The problem back then was it was much more difficult to find out if you’ve been victimized before it was too late.  Luckily, today we are fortunate enough to have access to programs such as IdentityHawk that offers an extensive identity theft solution for those looking for identity theft protection.  However, don’t let these programs be a crutch for you.  It is always wise for one to continue to take precautions to protect yourself such as, shredding documents and credit cards rather than just tossing them in the trash.

Do you have teens?  Have you thought about educating them about building good credit and maintaining a good credit score?  In today’s times, it’s vitally important for parents to teach their teens before entering adulthood, about what it is to have a good credit score and what a credit report is.

Educating them can save them thousands of dollars.  Many auto insurance companies base the cost of one’s premium on their credit score.  The higher the credit score the lower the auto premium – as ill as that may be.  This is because they feel one is more responsible with their finances, which in turn, makes these individuals more responsible drivers.  The same holds true for those who look to render an apartment.  Many of the bigger rental companies will pull your credit score…the higher the score…the less chance of you not paying the rent.  In addition, should one be on the hunt for an auto loan or credit card…the higher the score the better one scores for a lower interest rate.

Did you know there are three major credit bureaus; therefore, three credit scores and they don’t always match?  Knowing one’s credit score puts one in the driver’s seat when applying for credit.  A benefit of using the Internet to obtain your free credit scores is that it won’t cost you.  There are places on the Net that offer these free to you…opposed to requesting them from the credit bureaus where you will be charged a fee.  It’s worth being informed…it’s worth educating your teens on how to build their credit and how to go about obtaining their reports and scores.

New coupons added for you to print out…check them out!  There are coupons for dog food, kids, cereals and more.

The coupon I am most excited over is the Greased Lightning $1.00 off coupon.  You have no clue how much I love this product!  I actually get really ugly when I go to use it and someone in the house hasn’t bothered to tell me they’ve used it and that we are almost OUT!

If you’ve never used this product before, you don’t know what you’re missing.  You know how kitchen walls and items up above the cupboards get easily soiled with a greasy like film?  This stuff cuts through that film like a charm.  Spray it on your wall then take the steam cleaner to that area and you’ll be amazed at how dirty your wall was beforehand.

I also use this on cleaning my vertical blinds…I put the blinds in a kiddie pool or the bathtub, spray them with the Greased Lightning and let them sit.  Within a couple of minutes, the Greased Lightning has done its job for the most part.  Sometimes, it takes a couple of applications if the blinds are really dirty – no biggie though, it beats scrubbing them with a brush and the cording comes out looking new.  I spray this on any clothing that has a stain before washing – sometimes combining the Greased Lightning with a laundry stain remover.  I have real good luck getting stains out this way…even stains that have set in.
