Although I have never tried this recipe it comes with great reviews from allrecipe.com members.  It’s a great recipe to make with younger kids as well as the older ones. Letting the younger kids join in when making these would promote fine and gross motor skills as well as eye and hand co-ordination.  I’m gonna get my niece to make me some of these…I’d do it myself, but I truly hate making cookies!  Here’s the link if you’d like to read the reviews first: Play Dough Cookies one reviewer suggests dipping the lollipop sticks in liquid egg whites before sticking into the cookie…this apparently makes it so the sticks won’t fall out after baking.

Play Dough Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 3 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • assorted colors of paste food coloring
  • 24 lollipop sticks
  •
  • Directions
  1. In a bowl cream butter, cream cheese and sugar until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; beat until smooth.
  2. In a medium bowl combine flour, baking powder and salt. Add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture. Stir till soft dough forms. Divide dough into fourths. Tint each with a different food color. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 2 hours.
  3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Working with half of each color, shape dough into 3/4 inch balls and for each cookie place 1 pink, 1 green, 1 blue and 1 orange ball together to make 1 large ball. Shape into a 12 inch long roll (like a snake), starting at one end, coil roll to make a 2 3/4 inch round cookie. Place cookies 3 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheet. Carefully insert lollipop sticks into bottoms of cookies.
  4. Bake cookies for 8 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool and store in an airtight container.

If you’d like to save this recipe…why not save it to recipenut.com?  I happen to love this website for the mere fact that I use many sites for recipes and can never remember which site I got the recipe off of.  Recipenut.com simplifies this for me.  I add recipes from allrecipes.com, pillsbury.com, kraft.com…etc.

Have you ever wondered what carcinogens are in your cleaning products?  Here’s a list of a few.

Carpet Stain Removers: To have the power to lift serious stains, these products sometimes use percloroethylene, which isn’t only toxic but also can irritate the respiratory system.

Furniture Polish: This one is pretty scary – Most furniture polish achieves that shine with nitrobenzene, a central nervous system toxin that can be absorbed through the skin.

Air Fresheners: These generally contain formaldehyde and naphthalene, known carcinogens, and other chemicals as well. You don’t even need to use air fresheners! They simply mask the odor, when you need to be removing it.
The Solution: There are tons of green cleaners on the market as well as natural green cleaners. There are even tons of DIY recipes for homemade cleaners. When it comes to air fresheners, baking soda does the trick. And if you want a delicious scent, light a candle or simmer natural spices like cinnamon or ginger.
Since I only clean my area rugs twice a year, I don’t worry too much about using the cleaner I do…which isn’t a traditional carpet cleaner such as Bissell’s.  I came across one at the pet store when our dog was a puppy as she had them ‘accidents’.  Well…that carpet cleaner turned out to be the best thing ever for my braided rugs.  I decided that since it worked so well to just keep using it; and, it actually costs less than what I would pay for Bissell’s brand.

Furniture Polish…well only on occasion in my house.  I had heard a long time ago these weren’t good for you, or your furniture.  And air fresheners, I don’t use either as I would rather simmer cinnamon sticks in water on my stove.  I also use vinegar and water or just vinegar to clean surfaces.  In fact, vinegar is one of my best friends.  I wash my windows with it, my floors, fabrics that need deodorizing…I add it to my wash, I use a mixture of vinegar and water in my hand-held steam cleaner to wash my walls, and more. Vinegar is cost effective, a natural deodorizer, green and doesn’t leave the water-like marks on my laminate flooring like other cleaners do.

We all are well aware of Turbo Tax (there’s a FREE edition for those who qualify) but did you know the makers of Turbo Tax, Intuit Inc., also have a wonderful application called the Paycheck Optimizer?

Technically, if you are due a large refund on your Federal Income taxes, you have given the government a tax-free, interest-free loan each time your employer takes the required Federal Income Tax out of your paycheck.

Just think if you put all the money you don’t need to be giving Uncle Sam every week aside in a savings…you could be making money on YOUR money…not much these days, but every little bit counts.  If you look forward to that big refund, stash the money and forget about it.  Have your employer put the money directly into your bank account so you don’t even see it, and then forget about it until you’d normally would get your refund for that tax year. When that time comes, you can do what you wish with it.

Or maybe you need the extra in your paycheck for the time being…that’s okay too.  That extra $40 a week (or whatever it may be based on your circumstances), could be a blessing for the time being.  And by no means, are you locked into what you’ve elected to withhold, as one is able to change their W-4 selections once a year.  Also keep in mind, if you are eligible for the earned income credit, you can receive a portion of the next year’s credit in advance in your paychecks.

Outweigh your options so you can make an informed decision about what is right for your family at this point and time of your lives. Maybe you could benefit from using the extra money in your paycheck right now? Or, in the near future?  Or forever?… Maybe one of your family members is unemployed, or a baby is on the way, and maternity leave will put a damper on your finances. Whatever it may be, this application will help estimate what the right withholding number is for you and it tells you what you’d see in your paycheck if you elected to change your W-2 withholdings.

You’ll need a copy of your paycheck to answer the questions about your deductions. You’ll also need to know the amounts of other types of income you have such as retirement, rental income or losses etc..  The program is simple to navigate using the tabs at the top of the screen.  Try it out…It’s FREE!  I love FREE!  And, I love to know what my options are under any circumstance, so I can make an informed decision on everything in my life.

Click Here to take this test  If you can’t read the print on the pic, you can see it on the page or hold down your control key and press the plus sign on your keyboard….remember this is a “think” test…I forgot to think on a couple :-(.

I like Sam’s Club for many reasons.  One of the main reasons is I take advantage of their gas prices. Another, is I like how I can buy certain items in bulk, which otherwise would cost me a lot more, even at Walmart.
That being said, one thing I don’t like about this Club is they don’t accept manufacturer coupons.  Instead, they have their own program…which is fine except…it costs one to belong to the program.

I have an issue with paying to “save” money, especially when the ‘saves’ aren’t on my chosen items.  So I thought I would ask my fellow bloggers…what are your feelings on paying to “save?”
