amazon prime

With Christmas coming, Amazon Prime can come in extremely helpful and save you a lot of money on shipping fees.  Amazon Prime offers two-day shipping on thousands of items they sell…but often times, one doesn’t have the $79 to spend on the yearly membership.

First off, you’ll get a FREE 30-day trial of the service.  After that, the membership is $79/yr.  However, that $79 is good for up to four (4) additional household members.  If you are able to sign up as a small business – you may invite up to four (4) co-workers to shop with this account.

The catch on invitees is that they don’t receive these benefits (only primary account holder receives these) free:

  • Unlimited instant streaming of thousands of movies and TV shows with Prime Instant Video
  • A Kindle book to borrow for free each month from the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library

Invitees do receive:

  • FREE two-day shipping on millions of items
  • No minimum order size

The way to save on the membership is to have each invitee pay his/her share.   Simply divide the $79 by 5  This ends up being $15.80 per person.  Of course, the primary account owner may want to give a discount to their invitees since they won’t qualify for all the benefits not being the primary account holder.

Don’t forget there’s a membership option just for students.  Amazon Student offers 6-mos. FREE and then half (1/2) off the membership.

Amazon Student includes:

  • FREE Two-day shipping on millions of items
  • Deals and promotions – exclusively for students
  • Limited time offer where you can earn a $10 credit when you refer a friend
  • Unlimited Instant Streaming of movies and TV episodes
  • Borrow Free Kindle books

  1. That is awesome! $15 is an excellent deal for Amazon Prime. I use mine all the time for free shipping.

  2. So glad I came by! 🙂 Nice to know. Thank you!

  3. Just FYI, the free six months of Amazon Student does NOT include streaming or Kindle books. That doesn’t come in until you’re a paid member (at half price for four years).

  4. dividing a membership between family or friends is an awesome idea

  5. No matter how I divide my husband still pays the bill, LOL. I was contemplating getting this because I think it might be good for discounts on movies but I’m not sure if that’s what my husband was talking about, It sounds like a good deal then otherwise I usually spend $25 to get free shipping anyway, but the 2 day shipping sounds awesome, thanks
