Organic is the ‘in’ thing these days. And since I’d like to be using as many organic products in my life as I can, I agreed to review Organic Le Savonnier Marseillais Soap – an all natural soap, in the eucalyptus scent.

Look at all the uses this all natural soap has:

• Home – inside and outside – it cleans and adds shine to absolutely everything, without polluting.
• Laundry – ideal for washing and perfuming linen. There’s no need for fabric softener.
• Garden – the soap is a natural insecticide against aphids and various garden insects.
• Animals – as a natural shampoo for washing domestic pets and livestock

I actually tried the product in several instances. My first attempt was washing my dishes. I loved the strong eucalyptus scent; however I didn’t like that there weren’t a lot of soapsuds. That being said, I have no idea if this holds true for all – all natural soaps, as this is the very first all natural soap I’ve ever used. I was pleased at how well it took grease off the dishes, pots, and pans. I really didn’t expect it to do such a great job – especially since there weren’t any suds (yeah, I guess you could say suds trigger effectiveness when obviously – it’s psychological). The one thing I wouldn’t be comfortable doing is soaking my dishes, especially plastics in the soap. I would be afraid the scent would penetrate the plastic.

I also used the soap in my kitchen hand soap dispenser. I found it necessary to water the soap down once I got it in the dispenser, as it’s very thick. It’s actually hard to pour from the bottle because it’s so thick (I did not receive a pump as shown on the website and in the picture above). After fighting with trying to get the soap out of the bottle on a few occasions – I decided to see if using a straw inserted into the bottle would help it come out better. That didn’t work well for me. So I then decided to cut an ‘X’ with a utility knife at the base of the neck on the bottle. Doing that helped a lot.

My next test with this all natural soap was cleaning my hands of grease.  I buy meats in bulk and then repackage them into meal-size portions. I had burger and a pork loin to repackage this time around. I really wanted to see if the soap would get the grease off my hands from these raw meats. I went about my business, and because I hate the feeling of any foreign substance on my hands – especially slimy foreign substances like grease, I wash my hands often when doing the task. Amazingly, the soap worked very well without having to use a lot of it. I actually used what I had put in the soap dispenser – which was watered down at that.  I also used a rag with the soap to clean up the mess I made from packaging the meats – I was pleased with how the counter top easily cleaned.

This all natural soap also was used to wipe up a mess on one of the bedroom’s floor – accidentally. I didn’t do this as I vowed long ago to wash my flooring with nothing but vinegar and water.  That said, when I did go back in to clean that floor with the steam cleaner – I was amazed that the area that had been cleaned with the soap didn’t leave watermarks where I had steamed it. This is a positive as the reason I’ve resorted to water and vinegar on my floors is for the mere fact that other products would leave water marks as the floor dried and I found they left a film on the floors.  Neither makes me happy.

I do love the fact that the soap is safe for pets and kids.  We used a solution of this all natural soap with water to clean the litter box area.  With as many pets as I have – they tend to not care where they walk and when.  So if there is an area that I’ve recently washed, as we did in the litter box area, I know that I don’t have to worry about toxic chemicals getting into their paw pads.  The cleaner also filled the air with the eucalyptus scent which made the room smell so nice – very nice touch after messing with nasty litter boxes.
