Gardening, me? Who would have ever thought? Surely, not I. I don’t like the feeling of dirt on my hands – especially dry dirt. But there I was – digging and planting. Weeding and watering. And here 20 years later after my first encounter with a flower garden – I am thinking that I should invest in my own little greenhouse. Greenhouses come in various shapes and sizes. I’m sure I’d find one that would fit my needs and at the right price.
My interest in gardening all started 20 years ago by a fluke…well, actually more like – I needed to find something to occupy my mind when I was home alone after I’d been visiting my son while he was recouping from a major neuromotor surgery. I wasn’t too sure I’d like the activity but thought – what do I have to lose? With the help of a friend’s knowledge, I learned how-to design my garden and with what plants to achieve the look I was going for.
I was never so proud of myself come the end of the summer – my little garden was absolutely beautiful. You know, I actually found gardening to be great therapy – seriously – I found it to be relaxing. I enjoyed watching the flowers grow and bloom that summer. I enjoyed watching the strategically planted plants all come together making a statement when in full bloom. I liked driving up to my home and seeing how pretty the beds all looked. I loved the compliments I received by visitors.
Now I think I would like to take that all a step further and grow my own little gems in my own little greenhouse. I think I would get a lot of satisfaction out of knowing I was able to grow my own perennials, annuals, and vegetables, plant them in beds in my yard and watch them flourish. I would even try growing some shrubs once I was able to get the rest down!
