I was suppose to make this Chocolate Bread Pudding (a Paula Deen recipe) for dessert on Christmas. Well – everyone was too full that night, so they decided tonight was the night. I made it tonight and what a great dessert!  You can find the entire Chocolate Bread Pudding recipe on Food Network. The whipped cream topping was my own creation.
Food Network Pic – but mine looked just like this.
Minus the fancies on the top.

The ingredients as called for by Paula:

1 (1-pound) loaf French or Italian bread, cubed
3 cups milk
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup coffee flavored liqueur (I used Kahlua)
1 cup sugar
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 teaspoons almond extract
1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
6 eggs, lightly beaten
8 ounces semisweet chocolate, grated (I used milk chocolate)
Whipped cream (optional)

For the whipped cream – I whipped 2 cups of heavy cream first, then added 4 tablespoons of Bailey’s Irish Cream, and approx. 2 tablespoons of sugar.

What a delightful, complimentary whipped topping for this bread pudding.  I didn’t add the fancies on the top…everyone was ready to dig in the moment it came out of the oven!  I will say – it’s a very rich dessert, full of flavor, and leaves a great after-taste on the palate.
